Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition that results from an imbalance in reproductive hormones, which affects egg production. In patients with PCOS, the body produces elevated levels of androgens, which are hormones typically associated with male sexual characteristics.
This hormonal imbalance can lead to the formation of fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries, known as follicles. These follicles contain immature eggs, and as a result, the ovaries do not release eggs regularly.
