During your visits, your provider will review your pregnancy timeline, share information on the pregnancy process, and act as a trusted partner, guiding you from start to finish.

Your first obstetrics appointment is usually the most thorough. During this exam, Dr. Uzochukwu conducts a complete physical examination. The exam includes blood work, a pap smear, tests for sexually transmitted diseases, and a pelvic exam.
Depending on your health and family history, we may recommend additional testing.

Following your first appointment, Dr. Uzochukwu will build a personalized plan of regular visits every 4 weeks until you reach 28 weeks. Then, your visits will occur every 2 weeks until you reach 36 weeks, and finally, once a week until your delivery. During each of your follow-up exams, we will evaluate your:

• Weight and blood pressure
• Uterus size to track your baby’s growth
• Ankles for signs of swelling
• Urine for sugar, an indication of gestational diabetes

We will also check your baby’s heartbeat using an ultrasound. At least one ultrasound will take place during your pregnancy. This technology creates an image of your baby using sound waves.
