An ultrasound is a type of imaging test that uses inaudible high-frequency sound waves to show structures within the body. We then can project the image of what’s happening in your body onto a monitor in real-time. At WeCare, we provide ultrasound in Fredericksburg as a diagnostic tool for prenatal care and other reproductive health services.

Benefits of Ultrasounds and Imaging
While more commonly associated with pregnancy, ultrasounds are a vital resource for reproductive health. With these devices, the providers at WeCare Medical Associates are equipped to uncover your health problems.
An ultrasound can provide a visual of what’s going on inside of your body. With this visual, your provider can properly diagnose certain health issues.
Ultrasound involves no radiation or incisions. For this reason, an ultrasound in Fredericksburg is safe and painless.
The guided handheld attachment sends high-frequency sounds into your body. These sounds project a real time image of your soft tissue and organs onto a monitor.

Frequently Asked Questions
At WeCare, our providers use ultrasounds to monitor the development of the fetus. However, this amazing technology can do so much more! Ultrasound in Fredericksburg can detect problems in your:
- Uterus
- Bladder
- Cervix
- Fallopian tubes
- Ovaries
The resulting images can indicate whether any abnormal growths, such as cysts or fibroids, exist in your reproductive system. Your provider can also detect abnormal masses that may be cancerous.
Depending on the type of ultrasound, your procedure can vary. We may ask you to remove specific articles of clothing or provide you a hospital gown. One of our dedicated physicians glides a handheld device called a transducer, or probe, over your body.
If we’re using a transducer, we may follow these steps:
- You will lie on the exam table on your back or side.
- Your provider will apply a thin layer of gel to your skin.
- We move the transducer over the gel on your skin to gather body images.
- We may instruct you to be still or to hold your breath for a few seconds.
- Once we have collected the necessary images, your provider will remove the excess gel and complete your exam.
The transducer converts electrical currents into inaudible high-frequency waves that enter your body tissue. The sound waves move back and forth from your body to the transducer, converting them into electrical signals. We use a computer to convert these signals into images or videos that we display on a monitor.
At WeCare, we provide two types of ultrasound procedures:
- Pregnancy ultrasound: Also known as a transabdominal ultrasound, this procedure monitors the fetus, checks fetal movement and heart rate, and can confirm the biological sex of the fetus.
- Transvaginal ultrasound: Sometimes called a pelvic ultrasound, we used this procedure to show detailed images of the female pelvic organs.
